How to Jailbreak using Evasion

At the moment, all eyes are on the developers as they test out the new iOS 7 beta firmware.  Beta 1 was released on 10th June for the iPhone and yesterday, Apple released Beta 2 for the iPhone and iPad.  It is hoped that, as soon as the firmware is released to the public, a new iOS 7 Evasion untethered jailbreak will follow shortly afterwards.

In February Evad3rs released what was possibly the most successful untethered jailbreak solution ever, evasi0n. This was able to jailbreak virtually any iOS device on iOS 6 and, despite a couple of subsequent firmware upgrades by Apple, remained able to do so on devices running up to iOS 6.1.2. Unfortunately, 6.1.3 patched several of the exploits used, making it impossible for anyone who upgraded their device to jailbreak using evasi0n.

This guide is for those who did not upgrade beyond 6.1.2 and who have yet to jailbreak their device using evasi0n. For those who did upgrade, if you have an iPhone 4, 3GS or iPod Touch 4, you can use our guides for Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze to perform a tethered jailbreak.

How To Jailbreak Using Evasi0n:

You will need:

  • iOS device on iOS 6-6.1.2
  • USB connection cable
  • Computer running Mac OS X, Windows or Linux

To jailbreak your device using evasi0n follow these simple steps:

  1. First, back up your data using iTunes or iCloud;
  2. Download TinyUmbrella and save your SHSH blobs in case you need them later on;
  3. Download Evasi0n , choosing the correct one for your operating system;
  4. Download iOS 6.1.2 IPSW (links below) and update your device using iTunes. It’s best not to do this OTA as this will interfere with the jailbreak;
  5. If you have a passcode on your device, disable it, you can re-enable it later on;
  6. Make sure iTunes is closed down and launch evasi0n – Windows users right-click on the icon on your desktop and click on Run as Administrator;
  7. Make sure your device is connected to your computer and click on Jailbreak   on the main evasi0n screen;
  8. Do not touch either your device or your computer while evasi0n carries out the process, not until you are told to anyway;
  9. Once this part of the process is finished  you will see a Jailbreak icon on your home screen, tap on it;
  10. Evasi0n will now tell you that the jailbreak has been successfully completed;
  11. Your device will reboot and the Cydia  icon should now appear on your home screen, probably page 2 or 3, depending on how many apps you have .

iOS 6.1.2 IPSW required in Step 4 :

That’s the jailbreak process complete. Tap on the Cydia icon and let it go through its own short set up and loading process. You will need to confirm what type of user you are and, once s the jailbreak process complete. Tap on the Cydia icon and let it go through its own short set up and loading process. You will need to confirm what type of user you are and, once completed, you are free to explore and download the apps and tweaks you want. You will get some stock repos included with Cydia but here are a few more useful ones you can add.
