iOS 8.1 was released on Monday 20 October and was followed very shortly afterwards by the iOS 8.1 untethered jailbreak, released by Pangu without any warning. However, at the time of release, Cydia was not compatible with iOS 8 and had been left out of the jailbreak. This is now available to be downloaded manually alongside the jailbreak but Pangu assure us they will be releasing a full jailbreak in the near future.

That aside, some of you haven’t upgraded to iOS 8 yet, possibly because you are waiting to see what problems are encountered and maybe because you tried it and didn’t like it. If you are still on iOS 7.1.2 and you don’t want to take advantage of all the latest features on iOS 8 but still want to jailbreak, you can follow our guide here.
iOS 7 is still considered to be one of the better firmware versions, having undergone a complete overhaul last year. It also remains one of the few that has a jailbreak for every single update released by Apple.
Evad3rs are also said to be working on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 8 although nothing has been heard from them yet. This, however, is normal, as they tend to wait until they have something concrete to tell us. Talking too early tends to reveal what they have to Apple, giving them the opportunity to patch the exploits before the jailbreak can be released.
What could be considered concerning for them is that Pangu has released a jailbreak utility, a working one at that, in such a short timescale. The iOS 7 jailbreak appeared 3 months after the firmware was released last year and, before that, it took Evad3rs 5 months to build the iOS 6 jailbreak.
While we had hopes that the iOS 8 jailbreak would be out by Christmas, nobody could have dreamed it would be here this soon, making it what has to be the quickest jailbreak ever. While you could argue that it must be flawed to have come out so quickly, testing shows that, although Cydia is not included, it does work.
